We are headed to Carbondale today for our annual Charlotte Mason weekend. We have been making the trek there for the past three years, and we enjoy so much getting to meet up with friends we have made there, as well as making new friends each year.
This year, my husband will join me in encouraging homeschool parents as we seek to give our children an excellent education. We will talk together about finding balance in life while you are a homeschooling family. Then Larry will talk to the Dads about their role in the family and how that translates to their role in their children's education. I'm so thrilled that he will be able to join me in speaking encouragement to homeschool families in Southern Illinois!
On Saturday, I'll be sharing about how Miss Mason taught her students language arts - and you will be amazed at how painless this process can be! “What do you do for English?” “How do you teach spelling?” “What grammar program do you use?” “What do you do for reading?” Because I have used Charlotte Mason’s methods throughout our 12+ years of homeschooling our children, questions like these used to throw me. I worried I wasn’t doing all I should do for my children in these various subjects. Well, I realized, eventually (!), that the methods I had been using taught all these subjects, naturally, simply, (dare I say?) even – easily! I now share openly and boldly how I teach all my children with the gentle, natural methods that Miss Mason developed, and how it has benefitted them in all their educational endeavors. You would be amazed at just how much can be accomplished with a few simple exercises – like creative writing, for example. Join us this hour to learn how to cover all these subjects, and more without driving you or your children mad!
Then, we'll talk about all those "Extras" - Music, Composer Study, Artist Study, Handcrafts, Folk Songs, Hymns, Foreign Language, Free reading, and Poetry. Do these sound like the always-just-out-of-reach icing on the cake? Do you feel you have too much else to do, and you just can’t fit in all these ‘fun’ studies? Are these just special treats reserved for the super-organized mom sitting next to you at home school group? Well, I would like to encourage you that you CAN do these, and give your children the excellent education you desire for them! These subjects are just as vital as history, math, and science to your curriculum! Come, learn how you can have that icing on the cake – and give it to your children, as well – even first thing in the morning! (Now who’s mother ever told them to have dessert first?!)
We are also going to have resources on hand to help you in your homeschooling journey. Many items are going to be clearance priced - you won't find these items at these prices again any time soon! We'll also have some new products we've never offered before. This is a great time of refreshment, rejuvination, and equipping so you can finish this year well - which is my prayer for you!
So, if you can get to Carbondale, come join us! We'll be meeting at Cornerstone Reformed Church at 801 N. Almond St, and the fun begins at 6:30 Friday evening, and continues at 9:00 Saturday morning.
